Become a Group Leader

Commitment: Level 5

Description

During Forum’s week-long sessions, Group Leaders are responsible for a group of 10-12 students. They facilitate group meetings where participants examine issues addressed during seminars and prepare for the following day’s activities. Group Leaders review the presentations made by guest speakers and other curriculum materials with their group. It is the Group Leader’s role to create an atmosphere conducive to learning, to stimulate curiosity, and to encourage participation.

Skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Bilingualism in French and English
  • Be able to work with a group of youth

Expectations

  • Be available during a whole session week (from Saturday to Friday)
  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department
  • Understand Forum’s objectives and abide by Forum’s Code of Conduct
  • Have a positive attitude and the energy required for a demanding week (from 7am to 11pm)
  • Be available to stay in the hotel with the delegates for the duration of the session
  • Ability to work with youth and adults
  • Complete an online training program (approx. 1.5h in length) prior to arrival as well as in-person training on the day before the session

May be responsible for First Aid (requires current certification if accepted for this position)

Forum will be responsible for your:

  • Accommodations (double occupancy only)
  • Meals
  • Travel within Ottawa

Forum will NOT be responsible for your:

  • Travel to and from Ottawa unless you are part of the Canadian Public Service (including government agencies, the Canadian Forces, and the RCMP), in which case your employer should cover your travel costs.

Become a Logistics Assistant

Commitment: Level 4

Description

During Forum sessions,  5 to 8 Logistics Assistants are involved in a variety of tasks. Logistics Assistants must be prepared to do the following :

  • Help facilitate the Parliamentary Reception with Form staff
  • Coordinate logistics on Parliament Hill
  • Manage Forum’s social media presence
  • Chaperone students to MP visits on the Hill
  • Coordinate logistics in the Forum office

May be responsible for First Aid (requires current certification if accepted to this position)

  • Good communication skills
  • Bilingualism in French and English is preferred (but not mandatory)

Expectations

  • Be available during the entire week of the session (from Saturday to Saturday)
  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department
  • Understand Forum’s objectives and abide by Forum’s Code of Conduct
  • Have a positive attitude and the energy required for a demanding week (from 7am to 11pm)
  • Be available to stay in the hotel with the delegates for the duration of the session

Join the Support Staff

Commitment: Level 3

Description

Whether you have participated in Forum or not, you can help us welcome new students when they arrive and also help with many other tasks during the sessions.

Skills

  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to communicate in both French and English is an asset

Expectations

  • Undergo a Vulnerable Sector Check through their local police department
  • Understand Forum’s objectives and abide by Forum’s Code of Conduct

Benefits of volunteering

  • Include a leadership role on your CV, supported by an official certificate from Forum, upon request
  • Live the Forum experience from the organizational side but on a more flexible schedule
  • Build your professional network and meet new people

Forum does not responsible for any expenses while you are volunteering EXCEPT for meals .

Applications to be submitted by January 31st.

An optional training and orientation session will be held the day before your Forum session (usually a Saturday) from 9am to 4:30pm.
