My submission is a poem on the theme of gratitude. I recognize how lucky I am to live in Canada and I wanted to share my thoughts in a creative way.

A Place That’s Mine

It is always there to ensure I’m protected.

It makes sure that we are always respected.

Its natural beauty is something to admire.

Its many cultures and religions uplift and inspire.

It makes sure that I can go to school.

It makes sure good health care is a rule.

It’s not very violent, like one nearby nation.

Life somewhere else defies the imagination.

Other places, you’re pressured to do what you’re told.

Other places, human rights are in a stranglehold.

Other places, you can’t choose the people who lead you.

Other places, poverty and death are the fate that greets you.

Here, I can be anything I want to be.

Here, I am loved for just being me.

I hope you can see why I’ll never roam.

I am grateful to Canada, my country, my home.
